Seaside Oregon Library Discrimination

Library picks wrong organization to discriminate against

A community in Oregon is facing a federal lawsuit over its library's decision to block a Christian-based group from meeting in its facility. Unfortunately for Seaside, it's a legal group that has had many successes righting that wrong.
Mat Staver of Liberty Counsel explains that Seaside Community Library rejected his firm's request to use a common room for an educational meeting that included religious content.
"They pointed us to their policy that says 'meeting rooms shall not be used for religious services or proselytizing,'" says Staver. "We were also told that there was no reason for us to reapply for similar use in the future because the application would also be denied because of the religious restriction in their policy." Staver says the policy is blatantly unconstitutional because the room is permitted for expression of all other views, just not religious ones. Click for the complete article.
According to Staver, Liberty Counsel has handled a number of other lawsuits involving similar library policies and has yet to lose one.
